What is your role at TLC?: I am the AmeriCorps member at TLC through a partnership with Conservation Trust for North Carolina. I help with community outreach and volunteer management, and I am also responsible for planning and leading environmental education programs for our partner nonprofits that focus on supporting underserved youth in the Triangle.
Favorite TLC Preserve?: Horton Grove Nature Preserve. I love that you can go from wandering through a grassland to standing in a mature forest. It’s also far enough away from the main road, which allows you to really immerse yourself in nature.
Elicia was born in Charlotte, raised in Raleigh, and attended college in Wilmington. Having lived all over North Carolina, she has gained an appreciation for the ecological diversity and recreational opportunities the state provides. She graduated with a degree in Geography from UNC Wilmington, where she also worked as a Trip Lead for the Department of Campus Recreation. She enjoyed connecting people with nature and helping them expand their comfort zones. Elicia spent the next summer working as a Recreation Coordinator for the Yellowstone Co-op Employee Recreation Program before joining the SPCA of Wake County. Throughout her career and volunteer experiences, it became apparent to Elicia that environmental education not only benefits our ecosystems, but serves the people in our community as well. She is excited to join the TLC Team!
