What is your role at TLC?: As the Community Engagement Associate, I am responsible for developing and planning programs and activities for current and prospective members and increase opportunities for public engagement through events and volunteer opportunities with TLC’s preserves, conservation, and stewardship efforts.
Favorite TLC Preserve?: As an aspiring trail runner, I would have to say Brumley Nature Preserve is my favorite. I love running around all the different ponds and connecting all the trails to form giant (and exhausting!) loops through the preserve. I also love seeing how much Brumley changes in each season. It is truly one of the most peaceful places in the Triangle!
Born and raised in Raleigh, NC, Deja spent a lot of time hiking, biking and kayaking the natural gems of North Carolina. In middle and high school, Deja participated in the Junior Curator program through the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and discovered that her love of nature could be turned into a career. While studying towards a degree in Environmental Technology and Conservation Management at NC State (Go Pack!) she worked for the North Carolina Office of Environmental Education as an Environmental Education Intern, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences as a Natural Resources Curator and the North Carolina Clean Technology Center as a Clean Transportation Intern. Deja comes to TLC from the City of Raleigh where she worked as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Outreach Coordinator. Through her part-time job at REI she has been able to volunteer and attend events with their Outdoor School that have brought her to various TLC preserves.
