What is your role at TLC?: I work with the Stewardship team to perform annual monitoring of TLC’s eased and owned properties. This involves keeping up with landowners, physically monitoring each site, and reporting those visits. I also help out with other staff projects as needed.
Favorite TLC Preserve?: White Pines Nature Preserve. There are so many interesting habitats tucked into this one nature preserve. The cooler microclimate allows for an interesting mix of mountain and piedmont plant species, providing a unique place to live for lots of critters.
Caroline grew up in Hickory, NC, spending lots of time in the woods and in the North Carolina mountains. During her time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she worked for a year as the North Carolina Botanical Garden’s conservation intern where she gained hands-on experience working for a conservation land manager. Also while in school, she performed undergraduate research in plant ecology and on pine restoration techniques. After attaining a degree in Environmental Science, she went on to work for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission as the NC Bird Conservation Technician. In this role, she supported the North Carolina Birding Trail and North Carolina Partners in Flight with extensive analysis of Cornell’s eBird database.
