Buffalo Spring FarmThe Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC) and its partners, including TLC, with grant support from the Triangle Community Foundation, are developing a regional farmland preservation and agricultural development strategy for the Triangle. The project area includes Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties.

The stakeholders meeting will bring together farmers, resource professionals and others interested farmland protection, farmland access, local food, and food security. If you are interested in promotion and development of a sustainable and economically viable local food system, please join us to provide your ideas for place-based conservation and agricultural economic development strategies.

The stakeholder meetings will provide background information on the project and include opportunities for you to provide input on:

  • Why farmland preservation is important to your community.
  • Voluntary conservation strategies to protect farmland.
  • Agricultural economic development strategies for improving farm profitability
  • Farmland preservation maps and focus areas.

Join Frog Hollow in exploring the Eno River. Each month, paddle a new section of the Eno River River from Hillsborough to Falls Lake. Over these various trips, discover the hidden gem that is the Eno, let your imagination go wild as you paddle past areas that used to be home to Shakori, Occaneechi, and Eno American Indians, check out 867′ Occoneechee Mountain, watch turtles sunbathe, and more!

These trips include: Canoe or kayaks, guide service, and Eno River Association representatives

WakeWonder Hike at Swift Creek Bluffs @ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve

Explore one of seven WakeWonders on this early spring hike at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. This hike is being led in partnership with the WakeNature Preserves Partnership. Michael Schafale of the NC Natural Heritage Program will help participants identify the beautiful, and hopefully, some of the rare wildflowers found at Swift Creek Bluffs. The free hike will begin at 2pm from the main parking area. Please bring water and dress according to the weather. There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.

Trip runs approximately 3.5 hours. This trip includes a canoe or kayak, guide service, and TLC representative’s historical perspective.

Paddle the Deep River with Frog Hollow Outdoors and Triangle Land Conservancy. Flowing water and a single class I rapid await on this paddle through what was one of NC’s more active mining areas. Paddle participants will be able to take the short hike to Endor Iron Furnace, a 35′ relic of the Civil War. TLC members receive $10 off per person. Nature Explorers: Salamanders @ Chapel Hill Library

nature-explorers-salamandersDid you know there are more species of salamanders in NC than in any other state? Join TLC at the Chapel Hill Library as we learn about these fascinating creatures. We’ll read salamander stories, learn tricks for finding and protecting salamanders in our own neighborhoods, and make salamander slime to take home.

Explore one of seven WakeWonders on this early morning birding excursion at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. Join Colleen Bockhahn of Wake Audubon Society to meet the many birds that call this small nature preserve home and some that might just be passing through. Please bring water, binoculars if you have them, and dress according to the weather. There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.

First Saturday Walk at Swift Creek Bluffs @ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve

Explore one of seven Wake Wonders on the first Saturday of February at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. This guided hike will take us all throughout Swift Creek Bluffs, giving us the chance to see the entirety of this small yet beautiful preserve which is a gem in the midst of Raleigh development.  The hike will take us on the Stairway to Heaven in order to scale the bluffs for a wonderful view, but it is a bit challenging so plan accordingly. The free hike will begin at 10:30 am  from the main parking area. Please bring water and dress according to the weather. Leashed pets are welcome.  There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.
