On Saturday, March 12 from 9am to Noon, join Clean Jordan Lake as a volunteer to help intercept trash before it gets to the shoreline. This is a new initiative to complement our Adopt-A-Feeder Stream Program. The cleanup is part of the City of Durham’s Annual Creek Week, a time to discover and clean up Durham’s waterways. Volunteers will clean the banks of New Hope Creek just above where it enters the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s New Hope Waterfowl Impoundment. They will meet at the Waterfowl Impoundment parking area off NC 54 just west of Garrett Road. Event details and RSVP are at meetup.com/helpcleanjordanlake.

Join Frog Hollow in exploring the Eno River. Each month, paddle a new section of the Eno River River from Hillsborough to Falls Lake. Over these various trips, discover the hidden gem that is the Eno, let your imagination go wild as you paddle past areas that used to be home to Shakori, Occaneechi, and Eno American Indians, check out 867′ Occoneechee Mountain, watch turtles sunbathe, and more!
These trips include: Canoe or kayaks, guide service, and Eno River Association representatives

On Saturday, March 19 from 9am to 1pm, Clean Jordan Lake is looking for volunteers to help with their Annual Spring Clean-up, a part of the Haw River Assembly’s Clean-Up-A-Thon. The heavy rains in late December brought a huge trash load from the watershed to the southern end of the lake. Volunteers will meet in the upper parking lot of the New Hope Overlook Access to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. They will remove trash from Camping Area A to B. A Trash Treasure Hunt with prizes and light lunch also be included.

Durham Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Recreation Unit invites you to adventure in nature with your preschooler at West Point on the Eno. We’ll read a nature-themed book and take a walk on the wild side to find the nature right outside our door before having a snack. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and of course, wear boots or sneakers that can get a little dirty!
2-5 ages (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Trip runs approximately 3.5 hours. This trip includes a canoe or kayak, guide service, and TLC representative’s historical perspective.
Paddle the Deep River with Frog Hollow Outdoors and Triangle Land Conservancy. Flowing water and a single class I rapid await on this paddle through what was one of NC’s more active mining areas. Paddle participants will be able to take the short hike to Endor Iron Furnace, a 35′ relic of the Civil War. TLC members receive $10 off per person. Did you know there are more species of salamanders in NC than in any other state? Join TLC at the Chapel Hill Library as we learn about these fascinating creatures. We’ll read salamander stories, learn tricks for finding and protecting salamanders in our own neighborhoods, and make salamander slime to take home.

- lay out the garden beds, to include measuring space between them,
- remove roots from beds area
- line beds with cardboard and fill with soil,
- spread mulch between the beds,
- add support beams/poles to a couple of the structures for safety sake, and remove debris.
