Founders’ Day Celebration 2016 @ Trophy Brewing

Founder's Day at Trophy BrewingThirty-three years ago (our Founder’s Day is February 17, 1983) TLC officially became a recognized organization, and we’ve been hard at work conserving land ever since. For that, we deserve a trophy! Come celebrate with us at Trophy Brewing & Taproom on Maywood Avenue in Raleigh on February 19, the week of our founding! Join us for a brewery tour at 5:30pm and learn from the brew masters how the entire brewing process begins with clean water. Then, experience for yourself what beer brewed with water from a TLC protected watershed tastes like with one free tasting of Trophy beers brewed on the premises. Additional drinks available for purchase, light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

New Hope Creek Volunteer Cleanup @ NC Wildlife Resources Commission's New Hope Waterfowl Impoundment

Trash Pile Big Sweep 2006On Saturday, March 12 from 9am to Noon, join Clean Jordan Lake as a volunteer to help intercept trash before it gets to the shoreline. This is a new initiative to complement our Adopt-A-Feeder Stream Program. The cleanup is part of the City of Durham’s Annual Creek Week, a time to discover and clean up Durham’s waterways. Volunteers will clean the banks of New Hope Creek just above where it enters the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s New Hope Waterfowl Impoundment. They will meet at the Waterfowl Impoundment parking area off NC 54 just west of Garrett Road. Event details and RSVP are at meetup.com/helpcleanjordanlake.

Join Frog Hollow in exploring the Eno River. Each month, paddle a new section of the Eno River River from Hillsborough to Falls Lake. Over these various trips, discover the hidden gem that is the Eno, let your imagination go wild as you paddle past areas that used to be home to Shakori, Occaneechi, and Eno American Indians, check out 867′ Occoneechee Mountain, watch turtles sunbathe, and more!

These trips include: Canoe or kayaks, guide service, and Eno River Association representatives

On Saturday, March 19 from 9am to 1pm,  Clean Jordan Lake is looking for volunteers to help with their Annual Spring Clean-up, a part of the Haw River Assembly’s Clean-Up-A-Thon. The heavy rains in late December brought a huge trash load from the watershed to the southern end of the lake. Volunteers will meet in the upper parking lot of the New Hope Overlook Access to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. They will remove trash from Camping Area A to B. A Trash Treasure Hunt with prizes and light lunch also be included.

Join TLC at Fair Game Beverage Company in Pittsboro on March 26 from 5-7pm to celebrate the first week of spring! This Pittsboro distillery takes the best ingredients the Piedmont has to offer and turns them into delicious fortified wines and spirits; what better way to welcome back the growing season? All registrants can take a tour of Fair Game Beverage Co. and enjoy one free tasting of spirits distilled on the premises. Tours will depart at 5:15 and 5:45. Stay for a drink at the bar or pick up a bottle to take home and 10% of your purchase that night will be donated to TLC. Light refreshments as well as non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided. So come sip for the trees on Lorax Lane!

Durham Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Recreation Unit invites you to adventure in nature with your preschooler at West Point on the Eno. We’ll read a nature-themed book and take a walk on the wild side to find the nature right outside our door before having a snack. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and of course, wear boots or sneakers that can get a little dirty!

2-5 ages (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Explore one of seven WakeWonders on this early spring hike at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. This hike is being led in partnership with the WakeNature Preserves Partnership. Michael Schafale of the NC Natural Heritage Program will help participants identify the beautiful, and hopefully, some of the rare wildflowers found at Swift Creek Bluffs. The free hike will begin at 2pm from the main parking area. Please bring water and dress according to the weather. There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.

We are preparing to open Walnut Hill to the public in the next couple of years but just couldn’t wait to share our plans with our members. This special property has lots to offer Wake County residents, and we want our members to be the first to see it!

Ordinarily closed to the public, Irvin Farm will be open for this three week yoga series on May 15th, 22nd, and 29th when the farm is in full bloom!

Brook Oliver will lead classes in the Hatha Vinyasa style with all levels welcome. Brook is a certified personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise and is a 200 hour registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. She receives great joy when guiding students/clients in executing a meaningful movement practice into their everyday existence.

Please bring your own mat and a beach towel to place under it. The classes are outside but under a covered shelter so they will take place rain or shine. We look forward to stretching into summer with you!

walnuthillJoin TLC’s Land Maintenance Technician, Kyle Obermiller to get caught up on what’s happening at Walnut Hill! Soon to be the largest greenspace destination on the 26 Mile Neuse River Greenway in Wake County, plans are underway to make the most of this community resource. Part of the property will remain an active agriculture site and model for sustainable farming practices, starting with the use of cover crops on the dormant fields. Hear from Kyle why cover cropping is important, how it was planted, and what happens next. Then tour some of the picturesque features of Walnut Hill and learn what else we have in store for these 405 acres. We are preparing to open Walnut Hill to the public in the next couple of years and we want to give our members the chance to see it at every step along the way!

Sip into summer with TLC!

Join TLC at Fair Game Beverage Company in Pittsboro on May 20th from 4:30-7pm to take our first sips of summer! This Pittsboro distillery takes the best ingredients the Piedmont has to offer and turns them into delicious fortified wines and spirits; what better way to welcome back the growing season? Triangle Land Conservancy conserves local lands and farms that inspire Fair Game’s concoctions and provide some of their ingredients. Learn about both at this collaborative celebration of the season!

All registrants can take a free tour of Fair Game Beverage Co. to learn about how local farms and lands are the basis of their delicious creations and what TLC is working on in Chatham County. Tours will depart at 5:30 and 6:15. Come for a drink at the bar or pick up a bottle to take home and 15% of your purchase that night will be donated to TLC do a tasting and half will be donated to TLC.  You’ll also have the chance to win a bottle of your choice in a raffle!  Food will be available from Lorax Lane food truck Breakfast and Beyond. So come sip for the trees on Lorax Lane!

Explore one of seven WakeWonders on this early morning birding excursion at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. Join Colleen Bockhahn of Wake Audubon Society to meet the many birds that call this small nature preserve home and some that might just be passing through. Please bring water, binoculars if you have them, and dress according to the weather. There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.

First Saturday Walk at Swift Creek Bluffs @ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve

Explore one of seven Wake Wonders on the first Saturday of February at TLC’s Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve. This guided hike will take us all throughout Swift Creek Bluffs, giving us the chance to see the entirety of this small yet beautiful preserve which is a gem in the midst of Raleigh development.  The hike will take us on the Stairway to Heaven in order to scale the bluffs for a wonderful view, but it is a bit challenging so plan accordingly. The free hike will begin at 10:30 am  from the main parking area. Please bring water and dress according to the weather. Leashed pets are welcome.  There are no bathrooms available at Swift Creek Bluffs.
