On Saturday, March 12 from 9am to Noon, join Clean Jordan Lake as a volunteer to help intercept trash before it gets to the shoreline. This is a new initiative to complement our Adopt-A-Feeder Stream Program. The cleanup is part of the City of Durham’s Annual Creek Week, a time to discover and clean up Durham’s waterways. Volunteers will clean the banks of New Hope Creek just above where it enters the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s New Hope Waterfowl Impoundment. They will meet at the Waterfowl Impoundment parking area off NC 54 just west of Garrett Road. Event details and RSVP are at meetup.com/helpcleanjordanlake.
Meet Clean Jordan Lake representatives and learn more about this event at TLC’s free Wild Ideas for Getting Outside on Wednesday, March 9.
This event has been cancelled due to low registration. Please join us for our next Get Wild! event on November 5th.
Bats, beetles, slugs, snakes, and spiders are just some of the creepy crawly critters who call Horton Grove Nature Preserve home. Come join us for a special Halloween program as we learn about these underappreciated animals. We’ll walk along the creek side trail, roll some logs to look for frogs and salamanders, search for spider webs, and even look at some of the places bats bed down for the day. Finally, we’ll finish up with some “edible dirt” treats and spooky Halloween games.
Costumes are encouraged. Please wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes for walking. Bug spray is recommended.
CANCELLED DUE TO LOW REGISTRATION – Look for future Get Wild! events coming soon!
With Halloween right around the corner, come learn all about the flying creatures that help make this holiday spooky! Join us in installing Horton Grove’s first bat house, and get a last glimpse of the animals before they go into hibernation.
Please dress for the weather, and wear closed-toed shoes. Costumes are encouraged for kids, and younger children in families are also welcome to attend!
