Deep River Paddle @ Deep River Park

Trip runs approximately 3.5 hours. This trip includes a canoe or kayak, guide service, and TLC representative’s historical perspective.

Paddle the Deep River with Frog Hollow Outdoors and Triangle Land Conservancy. Flowing water and a single class I rapid await on this paddle through what was one of NC’s more active mining areas. Paddle participants will be able to take the short hike to Endor Iron Furnace, a 35′ relic of the Civil War. TLC members receive $10 off per person. This event is now full. A few spots are still reserved for Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor pairs, who may register separately. Please contact bgoldentyer@triangleland.org or 919-908-0054 to register as a mentor pair. Otherwise please join us at future Get Wild! events.

Join TLC and Learning Outside at Irvin Nature Preserve for an evening of family fun celebrating the fall season. We’ll paint pumpkins, use the colorful fall leaves to create sun catchers, try some nature games, and end the night roasting marshmallows over the campfire.

All ages welcome. Please dress for the weather and bring a chair/blanket to sit around the campfire.

Winter Tree ID Hike @ White Pines Nature Preserve

Grand Trees of Chatham will have a Winter Tree ID Hike at White Pines Nature Preserve on Sunday, February 25 at 1:00 pm.  Andy Upshaw and Phil Cox will lead the hike which will focus on identifying some of the beautiful trees and other natural features at White Pines.  The hike is about 2 miles long and is moderately strenuous.  Please no pets or children under 5 years.  Please wear footwear and clothing appropriate for dirt trails and the cold.

In case of bad weather (rain, snow) the hike will be cancelled.  If the hike is cancelled we will attempt to e-mail those who have signed up.  We will also post the cancellation on the Grand Trees of Chatham FaceBook page, so please check here if the weather looks questionable:  https://www.facebook.com/grandtreesofchatham/

Directions to White Pines Nature Preserve:

White Pines Nature Preserve Preserve is located just past the Rocky River heading South from Pittsboro on 15-501, first left on River Forks Rd after crossing the Rocky River.  River Forks Rd is a circular Rd so one can go left or right after coming off 15-501.  The preserve is at the end of a small gravel/dirt road that comes off River Forks Rd, there is a sign marking the preserve and there is parking at the end of the road.   The address is 548 S Rocky River Rd, Sanford, NC.

Get Wild! Fall Colors @ J. Logan and Elinor Moore Irvin Nature Preserve

Join TLC at Irvin Nature Preserve for a morning of family fun celebrating the fall season. We’ll learn about why leaves change color while looking for some of our own to use for seasonal crafts!  This is a free event but does require pre registration.  See below to register.

This program is open to families with children ages 4 and up. Remember to dress for the weather, and to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty.
