Optimized-autumn-olive_fruit3This summer, Fullsteam Brewery is helping TLC to fight back against invasive plants! On August 20th we’re teaming up for an Autumn Olive Harvest to help rid Brumley Forest of one of the most destructive non-native plants in the area. Autumn olive is an invasive species that out-competes and displaces native plants by creating a dense shade that hinders the growth of plants that need lots of sun. It can produce up to 200,000 seeds each year, which are easily dispersed because birds love their sweet/tart fruit and now, so do brewers! With your help, we are going to cut back invasive autumn olive shrubs, harvest the berries, plant native species in their place, and then take the fruits to Fullsteam for them to become an invasive ale!

Brumley Forest Nature Preserve won’t open to the public until November so this is a great time to explore this special property and experience life on the front lines of conservation. Celebrate a job well done with an after party at Fullsteam, all foragers get a free beer! Then keep an eye out for an original Fullsteam brew made from the very berries you picked. If you can’t beat it, drink it!

Registration for this event has reached its capacity. If you would like to get outside and work with TLC please consider joining the September 24th Trail Crew also at Brumley Forest Nature Preserve.
