Take another tour along the Devil’s Stomping Grounds Scenic Byway this weekend with stops at the Carolina Tiger Rescue, Angelina’s Kitchen, and SilkHope Winery.

10 a.m. Arrive at Carolina Tiger Rescue, 1940 Hanks Chapel Rd, Pittsboro, a “nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild. Public tours are given on Fridays at 10:00 a.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Get ready, because you are about to see tigers, lions, caracals, ocelots, binturongs, and kinkajous, as well as learn their natural history and how they arrived at Carolina Tiger Rescue. Take as many photos as you want, for Carolina Tiger Rescue’s inhabitants are beautiful as well as endangered.

Note: Tickets must be purchased online and in advance.

12:00 p.m. Ten minutes down the road is Angelina’s Kitchen, 23 Rectory St, Pittsboro, where visitors will find “local food with a Greek twist.” Go for your own gyro or falafel sandwich ($7.50-$9) or dig into a family gyro, falafel, or spinach or cheese pie dinner ($25-$40). The goal of Angelina’s Kitchen is “to offer healthy, affordable, in season and local food with a Greek and southwestern flair for the folks of Chatham County,” and they have succeeded!

1:00 p.m. After a delicious lunch, drive ten minutes to SilkHope Winery, 2601 Silkhope-Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro. The winery is open from Thursday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m., and is the perfect place for a lovely tour of the vineyard. At 700 feet, the 2.5 acre vineyard grows Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Norton, Vidal Blanc, and Traminette grapes for high quality SilkHope wine. Tour, taste, and enjoy SilkHope’s beautiful picnic area.
