The Case for Our
Water, Our Land
The need to protect open space in the Triangle has never
been more urgent. Between 1950 and 2000, the population of
our six-county region tripled to 1.5 million. Our population
could double to nearly 3 million people by 2030.
Our community has arrived at a
crossroads. Rapid development and population growth create an urgent
need to conserve open spaces, farms, and natural areas. At the same
time, large tracts of land are coming on the market, creating an
unprecedented opportunity to purchase land for conservation. The
time to act is now. We must move swiftly to protect
vital lands before they are lost forever.
To improve our capacity to respond
quickly and deliberately, Triangle Land Conservancy announces Our
Water, Our Land: A Campaign to Conserve our Community’s Natural Heritage.
The campaign seeks to raise $5.5 million for land
conservation and management. Funds raised through Our Water, Our Land
will provide leverage for other funding sources.
