We Jammed at Irvin Farm!

The Bluegrass Experience playing at TLC's Green Jamboree, June 21 2008 Three hundred people turned out to celebrate at TLC's Green Jamboree at the Irvin Farm on Saturday, June 21. And what a celebration it was, with great music by The Bluegrass Experience, great food by Thrills from the Grill caterers, great beer from Carolina Brewery of Pittsboro, great weather (storms passing to the north and the south cooled the air while just giving us five minutes of light rain), and fun activities.

Folks hiked the trails, fished in the pond, took hayrides, cooled off (when it was still hot) in the mist tent, learned how to play softly in nature (from REI's PEAK program), played the bean bag toss game "cornhole," and just plain had a good time.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped make Green Jamboree 2008 happen, and of course to our generous sponsors: Coastal Federal Credit Union and Josh & Robin Gurlitz.

Green Jamboree 2008, 25th Anniversary Celebration
Didn't make it to TLC's 25th Anniversary Gala? Here's your chance to celebrate our
25th Anniversary and leave your tux at home. The Irvin Farm is a 269-acre mix of
farmland and forest in Orange County west of Carrboro. The farm was bequeathed to
TLC by Logan and Elinor Irvin.

Enjoy a BBQ dinner (vegetarian options), drinks (beer and soft drinks provided),
bluegrass music, guided hikes, catch-and-release fishing in the small farm pond (bring
your own bait and tackle), and lawn games (we'll have some, but please bring your
favorites too!) We will have a large tent with tables and seating available, but you
may also want to bring your favorite picnic blanket or your camp chairs.

At 4 pm our friends from outdoor gear retailer REI will put on their PEAK program
for kids
. (PEAK stands for Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids.) The program
of games, activities and lessons spills out of a stuffed backpack and teaches kids
the seven Leave No Trace principles. PEAK link

Green Jamboree 2008 is also serving as our annual membership meeting. We will recognize our volunteers and TLC members will be able to vote in the board of directors election.

Summer on the farm means ticks and chiggers. We'll provide several bug spray stations.
Please be aware and take care to keep yourself protected from these nasty critters.

Special Thanks to Our Green Jamboree 2008 Sponsor!
