5. TLC convenes conservation summit

TLC brought together the leaders of conservation agencies and organizations from across the Triangle at the Regional Conservation Summit on October 23.  Discussions veered between a wide array of conservation initiatives: green space, water quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and working lands. TLC will use the information gathered to update the Triangle GreenPrint and as a basis for regional planning efforts. Learn more online.

6. TLC completes study of the Southwest Shore Wilderness

TLC and the Chatham Conservation Partnership have completed a study of the Southwest Shore Wilderness, more than 10,000 acres along the Haw River and Jordan Lake in Chatham County.  A local developer hopes to develop the largest mixed-use project in Chatham County on 6,500 acres here, and asked TLC identify conservation priorities for the area. Find out more about this project and see the report online.

7. IRA charitable rollover provision extended

President Bush signed an extension of the IRA charitable rollover provision through December 31, 2009. The provision permits individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income. 8. TLC wins Triangle Business Journal Green Award

In October, TLC was awarded the Nonprofit Business of the Year award in the Triangle Business Journal's first Green Awards. Thank you for all you do to help us save the places we love!
