Land Trust Day 2008: Saturday, June 7

Land Trust Day was bigger than ever this year, with FIFTEEN businesses participating with Percent Days or Donations.

Support local businesses, support local conservation

Land Trust Day is the one day each year you can shop to support conservation. Most of our business partners donated a percentage of their sales on June 7 to TLC. So by shopping, patrons not only supported locally owned and operated businesses, they also supported TLC and local conservation.

Read more about this year's Land Trust Day Business Partners below.

WHAT IS Land Trust Day? On the first Saturday of June, businesses across the state show support for their local land trusts by donating a percentage of their sales, supporting membership drives, or by making donations.

Great Outdoor Provision Company, a Raleigh-based outdoor gear retailer, began Land Trust Day in 1992 as a way of giving back to groups that are protecting the great outdoors of North Carolina.

Great Outdoor Provision Company and Patagonia teamed up to offer a $3,000 grant for land conservation in North Carolina.

TLC's First Island-Deep River project was among seven land conservation projects around the state in the competition.

Land Trust Day 2008 Business Partners

Please join TLC in thanking these businesses for their support of open space protection in our region. Most importantly, patronize their businesses and let them know that you're glad they've joined with TLC to help save the places you love!

Great Outdoor Provision Company, an outdoor clothing and gear outfitter with nine store locations across the state, continued to anchor our Land Trust Day activities this year. Seeking to help protect the North Carolina open spaces that are so near and dear to their company's mission, owners Tom and Becca Valone created the Land Trust Day concept in 1992. They wanted to contribute to the land protection and stewardship work being done by local land trusts.

This year the company will donated 10% of all June 7 sales to TLC from its stores located in Cameron Village, Eastgate Shopping Center, Falls Village and Northgate Mall. And land trusts that work in the regions where other Great Outdoor Provision Co. stores are located (Wilmington, Charlotte, Greensboro, etc.) received 10% of all June 7 sales from those stores.
