Locals Farms and Food

We support agriculture programs, community gardens and urban farming and protect land to ensure our region can grow fresh, local food for generations to come. North Carolina has a strong, deeply-rooted history in agriculture—it remains our state’s single largest economic driver.

TLC holds protective conservation easements on or near some of our area’s most famous farms – like Maple View and Chapel Hill Creamery – so that these farms can remain farms, in spite of increasing pressure from development.

TLC’s 270-acre Irvin Nature Preserve & Farm serves as an educational incubator for small farmers, beekeepers and non-profits addressing hunger, like the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
Thousands of pounds of fresh, healthy food are grown each year, feeding refugee and need-based families in our community.
