Volunteer Opportunity: Build a new trail at Johnston Mill Nature Preserve

Trail Crew volunteers build a bridge at Johnston Mill Nature Preserve

TLC is looking for volunteers to help build a new trail at Johnston Mill Nature Preserve in Chapel Hill. The work involves cutting a path for the trail, removing vegetation, and building a bridge. No special skills are required. Workday dates are listed below.

A list of what you need to bring to the workday is below.

Meeting Place:  Volunteers will meet at the preserve's parking area on Mt. Sinai Road. Directions

Please print the "What to bring/wear" list and the directions before registering. This information will not be provided again.


All workdays will run from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

What to bring/wear (applies to all TLC workdays):

  • clothes you do not mind getting dirty
  • long pants
  • sturdy, closed-toe footwear (no sandals or flip-flops)
  • water
  • lunch (if you'd like)
  • sunscreen
  • bug repellent
  • personal medications (e.g.: allergy medication, etc.)
  • lots of energy

What TLC will bring:

  • water refills
  • first aid kit
  • tools
  • project options
