Houston-native Charlotte Mitchell first came to the Triangle twelve years ago as a UNC-Chapel Hill Morehead Scholar and soccer player, where she earned a degree in Anthropology. She came back to the area soon after college, earning a Masters of Environmental Management from Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment and a law degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Charlotte currently lives in Raleigh, where she is an associate attorney at K&L Gates, focusing primarily on environmental and land use matters. 

Charlotte is interested in sustainable development and urban renewal, and recently earned the LEED Accredited Professional distinction through the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

“I am particularly interested in the challenges we face with respect to growth and development in a carbon-constrained future and the possibilities that exist in the Triangle for re-creating our communities,” says Charlotte. “TLC’s efforts to create a network of open spaces – or green infrastructure – provide many environmental benefits and are a critical component to the sustainable development of the Triangle.”

Charlotte is a member of the Triangle chapter of the USGBC and the Urban Land Institute (ULI), where she serves on the Sustainability Committee. She has also provided pro bono legal work for TLC and is a guardian ad litem in Wake County. Charlotte’s personal interests include road biking, running, yard work, eating good food and spending time with Biscuit and Boone, her golden retrievers.
