FAQ

Why are unrestricted Annual Fund gifts so important?

Unrestricted gifts directly support TLC’s overall operations – encompassing all work that supports our mission.  Your unrestricted Annual Fund gift allows TLC to use those unrestricted dollars where they are most needed, strengthening our efforts as the only local conservation organization working across all six counties of the Triangle to protect important open space.  Unrestricted gifts provide TLC with greater flexibility to be responsive to new opportunities and challenges.

What is a restricted gift?

Any gift you make that is limited to a particular program or funding area can only be used for that purpose.  For example, you can make a gift to directly support stewardship of TLC lands or support expansion of environmental education programs.  However, those restricted gifts solely benefit projects within that area.

What does it mean to be a TLC member?

Unless you select the option to make a one-time gift without becoming a member, anyone who makes an Annual Fund gift to TLC becomes a member.  Members are eligible to vote in annual elections for TLC’s Board of Directors, are listed in TLC’s annual report, are invited to member events and receive the quarterly Conservation Connections newsletter.

Individuals, companies and foundations making Annual Fund gifts of $1,000 or more become members of the River Society.  For more information on this leadership giving circle, please visit our River Society page.
