Background
After growing up in Raleigh (a Triangle native!), I studied Theater and Sociology at Duke University. I then lived for five years acting, directing, writing, and generally having fun in the Chicago off-Loop theatre scene. My days were spent as Assistant to the General Manager at Music and Dance Theater Chicago (MADTC), a not-for-profit constructing a $62.5 million theater in downtown Chicago. My MADTC experience was for me a master class in arts management, and it opened my eyes to the world of not-for-profits and the value of working for an organization with a mission that is personally important to me. My Chicago nights and weekends were spent creating and working as Co-Artistic and Managing Director of the small but mighty theater ensemble, Both Hands Theatre Company. I moved back to Durham in October 2002 eager to spend more time with my family, hang out on our family farm, and eventually bring Both Hands Theatre Company here. Though NC is still beautiful, I am distressed at the extent of the development here since I left, so TLC’s mission of conservation is close to my heart. I am happy to be here in the Triangle and here at TLC.

My favorite TLC property is White Pines Preserve because...
...I have had such inspiring, renewing walks there—both with friends and alone. The woods and the river are absolutely gorgeous, and the work TLC is doing to spruce up the trails and manage the land is really exciting.
