Conservation and Stewardship Priorities

Land Opportunity Fund ($4,000,000)
This revolving fund will enable TLC to quickly acquire critical waterway, wildlife and open space land as it becomes available.

New Nature Preserves in Durham County and Orange County
($300,000 each)

Gifts to these projects will create two new public nature preserves with miles of hiking trials, camping, waterways and environmental education programs. The rapidly growing Triangle population and the popularity of these places make the need for more public preserves urgent.

Update and Expansion of Current Nature Preserves ($100,000)
Gifts will update four current TLC nature preserves, including new trail systems, signs, bridges benches and parking areas.

Interpretive Programs at Nature Preserves ($100,000)
Gifts will develop self guided environmental education programs at open preserves and create outreach programs to schools and private education groups across the Triangle promoting these educational opportunities.

Irvin Learning Farm and Conservation Center ($200,000)
Gifts will support 1) completion of 4+ miles of trail systems and campgrounds 2) Expansion and facilities development for summer and after school Youth Outdoor Education Programs where children 5-11 learn about the natural world and conservation through nature hikes, exploration of ponds and waterways and interaction with native plant and animal habitats 3) Development of working farm pastures for sustainable farming education initiatives and food production for local markets.

“Explore the Triangle” ($25,000)
Gifts will allow TLC to plan, facilitate and connect a network of Triangle greenways currently planned or on the ground across the Triangle; connecting local systems to each other and to larger regional greenways.
