These env ironmental engineers are the largest rodent in North America\, but they ar en’t just any old rat.
\n< p>Learn all about beavers and nature’s other en gineers to solve this case! To complete Operation Earth Day\, you will hav e to visit each of our stations that have fun activities to gain clues to find the solution! If you find all the clues and solve the mystery\, you w ill be entered to win our Top Investigator prize including outdoor gear an d a $25 gift card donated by Great Outdoor Provision Company! \nThis is a free event but pre-registration is required. There are a few arrival ti mes available to try and distribute crowds. \nOn this moderate\, 3.5 mile hike le ad by our trail guide\, Pam\, you will see five varieties of pine trees. T his preserve contains species not typically found in the North Carolina Pi edmont\, but still remain here from the last ice age due to the rivers sur rounding the area creating a microclimate. Throughout the hike\, you can a lso keep an eye out for white-tailed deer\, beavers\, gray foxes\, and mus krats. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a full water bottle! This is a free event\, but preregistration is required.
\nThe pace of th is hike will be just under 1.5 mph. Please note that there is decent topog raphical change at this preserve that may be difficult for some visitors. Because of it’s incr edible ecosystem\, surrounded by the White Pine and cooled by the confluen ce of the Rocky and Deep Rivers\, it can be up to 10 degrees cooler than t he neighboring city of Pittsboro! So it is an excellent location to escape our North Carolina heat.
\nThis will be a moderate 3-mile hike over about 2 hours. There will be multiple stops along the way to learn about the ecology and the history of the preserve. Please make sure to wear good walking shoes and bring a full water bottle along with bug spray and suns creen if you would like it! This is a free event\, but preregistration is required.
