\nCome on out to our Horton Grove Nature Preserve and explore our w
aterways! We will learn all about why it is important to conserve streams
and creeks and what you can do to help! Then we will even perform our very
own study of the ecosystem to see if we can find any indicator species th
at will show us how healthy the environment is. If you are a member of the
Triangle Explorers program then you will also earn your Get Wild! badge a
nd your Conservation badge!
\n\nIn accordance with CD
C guidelines\, masks should be worn by those who are unvaccinated or when
anyone cannot maintain social distancing with guests other than your famil
y/pod. TLC seeks to build a supportive\, mask-friendly environment in all
collaborations with staff and the public. We encourage others to be respe
ctful of personal choice about mask wearing.

is a free event but pre-registration is required. Make sure to wear shoes
and clothes that you can both hike a little bit in and get wet in a creek

DESCRIPTION:
Come join us at our Horton Grove Nature preserve to learn ab
out historical medicinal plants and their uses. Our Education and Outreach
intern Reagan will teach us about the medicinal uses of plants such as Re
d Maple\, Sweetgum\, Honeysuckle and many more! This event will explore th
e history and communities of Historic Stagville\, and center discussions a
bout the healing and caring expertise of the people that were once enslave
d there.
\n
This short hike will be a little under 2 miles\, and will
journey through both the grassland and forested areas of the preserve wit
h some slight topographical change. There will be plenty of stops along th
e way to check out what plants we can find and identify so be sure to brin
g good walking shoes\, sunscreen\, and a full water bottle.
\n

Current Mask Policy: TLC seeks to build a supportive\, mask-
