\nJoin us for one of our first hikes of the new year! Johnston Mill is one of the most beautiful sites in Orange County (besides Brumley Forest of course) and we are so excited to be able to host a hike to star t off 2022! This easy hike will take about 2 hours to complete and distanc e will depend on group speed and what we can find along the way. Although this will be primarily a social hike\, we will occasionally stop to look f or clues to the natural and human histories of this Preserve. It will be l ed by one of our fantastic TLC Trail Guides and the hike will start prompt ly at 10am so make sure to be at the parking lot ready to explore!
\nIn the event of inclement weather\, you will be notified through email th e status of the hike. Make sure to remember your water bottle\, good walki ng shoes\, and a mask. We can’t wait to see you there!

There we will be joined by members of the Hu rlbert Lab at UNC who will take us through every step of the project inclu ding being shown the methods of capturing accurate counts of arthropods on the branches of tagged trees. You do not need to bring anything\, other t han good walking shoes and a full water bottle. \nCo me out to Horton Grove Nature preserve on Saturday November 12th to learn all about medicinal plants and how they transform over the Fall. You will learn about a variety of plants native to North Carolina and their histori cal medicinal uses. With the seasons changing\, kids will also learn about how and why plants change to create the beautiful array of Autumn color. This hike will be about 1.5-2 miles long with many stops along the way.
\nPlease remember to wear good walking shoes\, and bring a full water bottle and some snacks for the trail. This is a free event\, but preregist ration is required.
